Verb-second word order

In a main clause the conjugated verb is in position two.

• Heute bleibe ich zu Hause — time can come first, the verb still follows.
• Yes/no questions put the verb first: Bleibst du zu Hause?
• Separable verbs split: Ich stehe um sieben auf.
